When do my tyres need replacing?
The legal minimum tread depth in New Zealand is 1.5mm across the tread. Below that you will fail a WoF. In practice, handling and wet braking fall off well before the legal limit, and uneven wear usually points at alignment rather than the tyres themselves.
Do I need a wheel alignment with new tyres?
If the car pulls to one side, the steering wheel sits off-centre, or the old tyres wore unevenly — yes. Alignment is $109.25 and it stops a brand-new set wearing out early.
